Behind Lalit Modi’s breezy arrogance is big money – wealth derived from the Rs 3,500 crore K K Modi Group’s money-minting machines like cigarette manufacturer Godfrey Phillips, Indofil Chemicals, beauty and home care products distributor Modicare Limited and home appliances company Modi Hoover.
Indofil insiders recount am interesting anecdote relating to an extraordinary general meeting attended by board members and some senior company managers.
(This happened prior to IPL-3, long before the shit hit the ceiling).
A point was being discussed about the company’s finances and Lalit Modi, in his usual staccato style, started giving his gyan on the matter.
Suddenly, K K Modi stopped him.
”Lalit beta, I don’t think you have got the point correctly,” said the patriarch very gently. “Don’t forget, this is Indofil, not your IPL.”
