In January 2010, chief minister Ashok Chavan appointed 35 ‘guardian ministers’ to oversee certain special areas of Maharashtra state. Rural development minister Jayant Patil was handed over Mumbai city.
On Tuesday, reacting to reports and complaints of numerous potholes on Bombay roads, mantriji bundled three top-ranking officials of the Bombay Municipal Corporation and literally took them for a ride on Bombay’s battered roads. He asked his driver to get off from the car after some time and personally drove it over each and every pothole that came in the way, lambasting the officials in the process.
On Wednesday, the officials swung into action.
They got a team together and covered the potholes – but only those that came on the route between minister Patil’s home in Malabar Hill and his office in Nariman Point, barely five km away!
