The latest missive from Godfrey Pereira, a dear friend, a former magazine editor in Bombay now settled in the US of A. A brilliant writer of serious as well as humorous prose. A sample of the latter follows:

A Letter to The Romans;
Just writing to say hello. Hope that you are all fine; both, your loved ones and the ones that frequently piss the shit out of you.
It’s hot right now on the American East Coast. The B.P. oil well has been capped. The Economy is “Recovering” And the Hard Core Porn Industry is flourishing. The Chinese food that we presently consume, is now actually Made In China and Packaged In India. For Confirmation, Call A CALL CENTER.
We are a coffee drinking nation; now we have a new party: The Tea Party. What? What? Meanwhile, The Chinese Take Out Guy, is refusing to deliver anymore; says with a smile, “First, Please Pay “Ten doll-ah For Last Meal, Ok, Charlie.”
Please do send money, in small bills, we have lost the ability to identify big ones and We need ANOTHER LOAN to pay the smiling Chinese Home Delivery guy.
Our “FRIENDS” in Pakistan, have confirmed that they are going to send us MANGOES, so that we do not starve! As a nation, they are so kind and caring. They truly have our interest at heart; especially those simple, rustic, rural folk, living along their picturesque border regions.Hillary Clinton, says the area has great potential as a tourist area! Just needs a little re-structuring, that’s all! The trusted Pakistani Secret Service told her, so she said.
So “TA, TA,” like our friends “across The Pond” say.{Psssstttt….they are broke too}
